Jazz Dance is used as an umbrella term to encompass many different branches including technical jazz, commercial jazz, Broadway/musical theatre jazz and even some social dances such as the Charleston. It is fast, fun and incorporates many of the same elements as ballet and contemporary, including leaps and pirouettes.
Jazz Dance became popular in early twentieth century America, however there are traces of this style in African rituals and celebratory dances from around the seventeenth century.
Jazz Dance at Panthera Dance Company is Non-Syllabus meaning there are no exams to be taken and the classes focus on technique through choreography and exercises.
